Tricks To Increase The Loading Speed Of WordPress Blog

by Simrandeep on July 11, 2009

wordpress_logoNobody likes to visit a website/blog which takes too much time to load its pages. If you are a regular visitor of my blog, you may have noticed a certain downfall in the loading of my blog at regular intervals. There was a problem that was preventing my blog from loading fast. In this post, I will share some tricks that may help you to load your blog fast.

Disable Unused Plugins

You must try to prevent the use of plugins as more plugins may cause your blog to load very slowly. For example instead of using Google Analyticator wordpress plugin, you should try to put the code manually in your theme. There are lots of other simple tasks too that can be solved manually instead of by using plugins. If you have installed a lots of plugins, enable only those plugins which are more in use and disable the unused plugins.

Use WordPress Super Cache Plugin

WordPress super cache is a must have plugin for any wordpress user. WP Super Cache is a static caching plugin for WordPress. It generates html files that are served directly by Apache without processing comparatively heavy PHP scripts. You will surely speed up your blog by using this plugin. Click here to download WP Super Cache plugin.

Be Careful While Chosing Your Web Host

Loading speed also depends a lot on the quality of  your web host. You must be very careful in chosing a right web host for you as there are a lots of web hosting service providers available. I have started my wordpress blog on Dreamhost as it is recommended by most of the successful bloggers and I am completely satisfied with it. The best thing that I found in Dreamhost is their customer support. They reply immediately to your problems. (Use promo code TD50 to get $50 discount  + 1 free domain on Dreamhost)

I have only 18 plugins on my side to minimize the load on my site and database. The more plugins you have the more load there is. There are some things that you could use in your functions file to achieve the same results.

Super Cache plugin is a must for me and I’m sure to many other bloggers.

Thank you for this great post. I have no unnecessary pluggin and I supressed all the unnecessary PHP executions from the heading and footer and I even did the breadcrumbs myself. The loading of the blog is OK but you are advertising Supercache pluggin and I am afraid to use it. I want to be able to change the PHP code of my theme, I do not want to change version (the older blog is in 2.1, the newer in 2.7) since they satisfies me.I do not see the need to have a super administration. I think Cache will be OK for the older blog 2.1 ? but even, I want to master the code and when a page is cached and I change the PHP, I need to supress the cache and reinterpret the pages. Can Cache and Supercache authorizes that? How ? Somebody who uses these pluggins know the answers?
My questions might be stupid but the explanations about what Cache are Supercache are able to do or not to do is not enough for me. I like to know where I am going. I would prefer to study the problem You might answer that I could have look at their code rather than asking stupid questions.

@ “chiendent”
Look under “Settings” for WP Super Cache. About half-way down the settings page is the heading “Cache Contents”. Just below that area are two buttons; “Delete Expired” and “Delete Cache”.

If you press the “Delete Cache” button, all cached pages will be deleted. When a web page is requested, it will be re-built from scratch.

You can also exclude pages from being cached by entering them under the Accepted Filenames & Rejected URIs section, which is below the “Mod Rewrite” and “Garbage Collection” sections.

Deleting plugins is best idea but I suggest that as you can activate them in future if you need the same plugin
