Now that the iOS 11.2.2 download has been released, the big question is, can we jailbreak yet ? Jailbreaks have been very poor in the last 18 months, ever since Apple released iOS 10 along with a promise to put a stop to it once and for all and, for the most part, it seemed as though they had succeeded. None of our usual teams, like PP, Taig, or Pangu, stepped forward, leaving the one person who said he would never provide a public jailbreak to do just that.
That person was Luca Todesco and he is responsible for Yalu jailbreak. However, Yalu was limited to -bit iPhones only and that left a great many people without access to Cydia and, although he did update it for a while, it doesn’t look likely that he will update it again. We have also seen another limited jailbreak, called LiberiOS but that was patched straight away and now will not work on anything later than iOS 11.1.2. So, in answer to the question, can we jailbreak iOS 11.2.2, right now, the answer is no.
However, we have seen a fully untethered jailbreak demonstrated by Alibaba Pandora Labs, working n iOS 11.2.x but the team has confirmed that, right now, they do not plan on releasing that jailbreak to the public, leaving us where we started. At the moment, we can only hope that Luca Todesco updates Yalu to support iOS 11.2.2 or that another unknown team steps forward with a fully working utility. It would appear that the other teams have slipped out of the community quietly and are no longer working on jailbreaks.
One other thing that seems to be stopping jailbreak teams is the Apple Bug Bounty Program. This offers rewards up to $200,000 to researchers and developers who find bugs in the iOS and that kind of cash is tempting, meaning that, rather than releasing a jailbreak, these teams would rather report their findings to Apple and pick up a potential reward then they would build a jailbreak utility and let the public have it.
Sadly, we don’t have any more positive news for you; things are very quiet on the jailbreak front and it’s looking less and less likely, as each new update is released, that we will see much in the way of working utilities. Unless Todesco comes up with an update to Yalu jailbreak, we could be waiting for some time. There are however alternatives in the form of app installers that you can use so check out the following:
