How to Disable New Theater Effect of Facebook Photos

Facebook has recently added new annoying theater effect to photo albums. Now when you click on a photo on Facebook it’s displayed in a new black colored annoying pop-up box with icons for next and previous photos. This new effect is not getting positive feedback from the users. Here are few methods to disable the theater effect and bring back the old Facebook photo viewer.

Facebook Theater Effect

Few days back when I noticed this new feature in photo albums I started looking for a way to disable it in account settings but couldn’t find one. But there are few other ways to deactivate the theater effect in Facebook photo albums.

Method 1: One best and easy solution to deactivate the theater effect is to refresh the page when you are viewing the photos in photo albums. It will deactivate the theater effect and show the pictures in old style.

Method 2: When you click on a photo it will open in a pop up window. Now look at the URL and remove &theater from it. It will prevent the images to open in theater mode.

Method 3: This method requires that you use Firefox and install Greasemonkey Script. Now install the Facebook Photo Theater Killer userscript. It will permanently disable theater effect in Firefox browser. If you are a chrome user you can check Method 4.

Method 4: If you are a Chrome user then you can install this or this script to permanently disable the theater effect in Chrome browser.

I hope these methods help you to bring back the old simple and easy to use Facebook photo viewer. Do you like or dislike this new theater effect in Facebook photo albums ? Do share your views with us.

      Facebook will not remove this feature but they are going to make it permanent for all the users forcefully.

    This new feature could turn out to be both bad and good for different people.

    I have kind of hate and love relationship with this new feature.. When my Broadband connection is fast, I love it as it helps when you are checking out a photo album but with slow speed, at times it doesn’t even load.. I installed chrome plugin to disable this feature completely.

      @Harsh

      Exactly. If you are going through complete album then this feature is very much useful. But most of the users in our country are using slow internet connection so this feature is not of much use for us.
