Get Answers to Your Questions with Google Talk Guru

Google Labs has just launched a new service Google Talk Guru – an instant message client that answers your basic questions like sports results and weather forecasts by sending instant messages.

Google Talk Guru is an experimental service launched by Google that allow you to get basic information like sports results, weather forecasts, definitions etc via chat once you add the bot to your contacts list.

Here is how Google Talk Guru works. It require users to add guru@googlelabs.com to their list of friends in messenger. It works on all popular messengers that support Google Talk. Once you add it your list you can send the chat messages or queries with a pre-defined set of commands to the bot to get answers to your questions. You can use the following examples:

Sport scores: “score arsenal”
Weather: “weather Nairobi”
Calculate: “123 * 45”
Currency: “120 KES to USD”
Definition: “define laptop”
Translation: “translate earth to French”
Web result: “web Mount Kenya”
Help: “help translate”

For an example “weather Mohali” query will return the information about the weather in Mohali. You can’t use natural language to chat with Google Talk Guru. It only support pre defined syntax listed above. It just saves your time by getting the basic information in your IM instead of searching it in browser.
