Before finding the Maintenace Mode wordpress plugin, I used to test the new updates on my demo blog before making any changes to my main blog so that if I get any error while update process, my readers can not see that error. But Maintenance Mode plugin is like my wish come true. It allows you to update your blog without any fear of losing your readers.
Your blog will look like this when you activate Maintenace Mode plugin :
Maintenace Mode plugin adds a splash page to your blog which lets your visitors know that your blog is currently under maintenance.
When you activate this plugin, you will get full access to your blog if you are logged in as administrator but it will show a message like this to your visitors “Maintenance Mode – SITE is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. Please try back in 60 minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience”. You can also customize this message according to your requirements.
So from now onwards whenever you need to update your blog, just activate Maintenace Mode wordpress plugin before making any chnages to your blog.
Download Maintenance Mode WordPress Plugin
This is a great plugin if you need to change something fast. Personally I prefer to do my big updates offline and them upload to my main blog, just as with your demo blog.

Excellent Write Up!
I’m guilty of not using this plugin, I normally make changes on the fly and check them out. I guess my bad 🙂
BTW, I have seen many websites using this plugin. Thanks for sharing this info

@ Mohit Gupta
Thanks for showing your interest to link exchange with my blog. I visited your blog and you are promoting some illegal content in your blog. So I can’t link exchange with your blog. BTW keep visiting 🙂
@George I do the same, changes on the fly, don’t care about switching on the plugin !!!
