TinyUmbrella has always been one of the most useful of all the tools for jailbreakers or it used to be up until iOS 10. What it did was let you downgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to a previous version of the iOS firmware, one that was no longer being signed by Apple, so that you could reinstall a jailbreak. While you might want to download this now and try it, it isn’t actually working fully at the moment.

We know that Apple does not like jailbreaking and will do anything they can to put a spanner in the works, including stopping you from downgrading to an earlier version of the iOS than they are currently signing. As a result, because Apple stopped giving us the SHSH blobs for the older iOS versions, they effectively plugged the hole that allowed TinyUmbrella to work. However, while you cannot use TinyUmbrella to downgrade your iOS version, you can use it to start saving your SHSH blobs from now on. The developer is working on an update that will get TinyUmbrella working fully again and, if you save your blobs now, you will be able to use them in the future.
How Does TinyUmbrella Work ?
This is actually very simple. When you install a new iOS version on your device, you get SHSH blobs, basically, little pieces of signed data for the iOS version you are using. You can only save blobs for currently signed firmware, nothing earlier. TinyUmbrella would then take these blobs and make a pre-signed IPSW file for the firmware, allowing you to downgrade to it, as many times as you wanted so that you could install a jailbreak.

So, while you can’t downgrade using TinyUmbrella, you can still use it to save your SHSH blobs because, when the tool is updated, you can use those blobs to get back to a jailbreakable iOS version. Given that Yalu jailbreak has just been released for iOS 10+, this is a good thing because it may give you the freedom in the future to come back to that jailbreak.
