Volkswagen Audio Ad In a Newspaper

We have heard that with digital tablets like Apple iPad we can read eNewspapers that can play audio clips as well as video clippings but have you ever heard of an audio ad in a Newspaper? I’m sure you haven’t seen an audio ad in a newspaper.

This morning, the Volkswagen Vento ad in Times of India newspaper surprised and also scared its readers. According to Suhel Banerjee who captured the video of this ad “There is a full-page ad on the last page of Times of India newspaper. As soon as you turn over to the last page of the newspaper, the ad starts playing by itself and it goes on in an endless loop till you close the paper.”

Here is a video of the Volswagen Vento audio ad

Although it’s not a new thing. We have already seen this type of technology in greeting cards which plays audio clippings. But I think it was the first audio ad in a newspaper which managed to scare the people.

Do let us know what you think about it.

    Great find!

I always considered VW to have innovative ads, so I’m surprised to hear the audio was actually a sales pitch. I was expecting a car engine, highlighting the power of VW. I was definitely not expecting an announcer. Plus, can you imagine what a train station would sound like with everyone opening their newspapers?

if this kind of ad cannot make a sale , they will make people atleast remeber what is volkswagen , and talk about it . i think that is the company’s trategy behind such an approach of newspaper audio ad

One of the toughest things for advertisers–is–and always will be getting people’s attention. I think Volkswagen was brave to WASTE so much money….but they probably accomplished their goal of getting people’s attention. But I can bet their sales won’t increase–because they don’t understand what makes people buy. If you really want to know what makes people buy products….try direct response advertising.

That cant be too cheap to put one in each paper. I dont see this becoming a common trend, its more like a novalty that is temporary.

It was amazing. My father got scared that it is a bomb or something as it was high alert in Delhi. But anyways a unique advertising strategy. Volkswagen rocks!
