6 Reasons Why Hostgator Is Better Than Dreamhost

The most common problem that a newbie blogger face when he is starting his first blog is to get a reliable web hosting. Hundreds or I can say thousands of web hosting providers are available that claim to provide best hosting with best uptime but most of them are fake and do not stand upto their words.

I have been blogging for more than 1.5 year now and I must say it is very important to have a right web host. Till now I used two popular web hosting providers :

  1. Dreamhost
  2. Hostgator

Hostgator and Dreamhost both are the most popular and most demanded web hosting providers in the market and I have experience with both these web hosting providers. Users usually get confused between both these two web hostings. In this article I’ll tell you the 6 reasons why Hostgator is better than Dreamhost.

Earlier I hosted my blog with Dreamhost when I migrated my blog from blogger to WordPress. When you search for reviews about Dreamhost on internet you will find that most of the people are saying that Dreamhost is the best hosting provider for normal users but I had a bad experience with it. Earlier I was not getting any problem with Dreamhost, but when my traffic came to normal, I started getting regular down times. So I moved my blog from Dreamhost to Hostgator and now I’m happy that I moved my blog to Hostgator.

Live Chat Support

Live chat support is the essential requirement of any web hosting. Whenever you get any problem with your web hosting you can immediately contact your hosting provider if they provide live chat support but Dreamhost do not provide any live chat support to its regular users. It only provide this option if you are on PS (Private Servers) that costs too much for normal users. Hostgator provide live chat support to shared hosting users too.

Better Uptime

When I was on dreamhost, I was getting regular downtimes and they were not able to resolve the problems with my blog’s downtime and after moving to Hostgator, I never got any downtime till now. According to my experience, uptime of HostGator is far better than Dreamhost. What you do when you visit a website and it do not open ? You will visit it one more time but what if it do not open again. In such condition you hardly visit such a website again. So uptime of any website is most important thing. You will lose your precious readers when you start getting downtimes.

Easy to navigate CPanel

Both of these web hosting providers offer CPanels. Although the cpanel of Dreamhost looks better than the cpanel of Hostgator but it’s not easy to navigate. Whereas the cpanel of HostGator is really easy to navigate and you can find desired tools very easily.

Best Customer Support

Hostgator team is very nice in dealing its customers. They provide 24/7 customer service. I’m totally impressed with their service. Whenever I need any support I contact them through live chat support and in few minutes only they provide me with necessary solutions.

More Features than Dreamhost

Hostgator wins in features too by providing more features than Dreamhost. It provides some unique features like hot link protection, Instant backups, Custom error pages, Web site statistics and many more.

Cheaper than Dreamhost

Price is the another factor that is taken into account when we are going to buy web hosting. You can get Hostgator webhosting for as low as $4.95/ month where as Dreamhost’s price starts at $8.95/month.

Conclusion

After clearing all my points here and with my experience with both these web hostings, I will highly recommend Hostgator. You may also read other reviews on internet before buying web hosting. If you are going to start your first blog and need to host only one domain then you can go for Hostgator hatchling plan that costs just $4.95/month.

I can’t find the button right now cuz it’s temporarly NA, link for live chat is but I’ve used this twice ( ) and the support was really good.

The only thing I don’t like about HG is you can host only a single domain in it’s basic plan 🙁

You are right but the basic plan is cheaper than the other plan. You can host unlimited domain in baby plan and that’s also cheaper than dreamhost.

I had recently been researching on dreamhost’s uptime and request % and realized it was horrible… even free services give a better request % compared to dreamhost…

I currently host my blog and another site on my account over at ixwebhosting and I’m sort of satisfied with their service.

I recently signed up at hostgator and have 2 sites up there and I just love them. It was a bit scary for me in the beginning to get to know my way around, but I’m better and faster now. i like the ease of doing things and I like the backup feature of files and db. With IXWebHosting, I use to log a ticket for this and it took time.

I think it was the best move I have made.

I’m presently with Lunarpages and although I’m not planning on leaving them, I do have plans to get myself another webhost for some other projects I’m undertaking. Thanks for pointing out hostgator. Some other friend bloggers seem to recommend it too. With most things being equal, the 24/7 live chat support makes hostgator the easy winner.

I’m currently using hostgator promo for a month… using the WORDPRESS as coupon code, they billed me $0.10 for a month…

I agree with you, LIVE CHAT SUPPORT is very important especially in my case I came from blogger then transferred to wordpress, support was just one click away and they are there to help anytime you need assistant…. They have excellent support! this is recommended for beginners.

CPANEL is full-packed with useful links and applications needed in your wordpress blogging or website development.

    Downside.
    1. They don’t have one-click wordpress installation… you will do it yourself in the Control Panel.
    2. One technical guy referred me to a Kowledge Base HOW-TO and when i opened the link, to my surprise, its a website of their competitor… lol. so funny.
