The most awaited version of WordPress that is WordPress 2.8 “Baker” is finally available for download. Although the latest version 2.8 visually feels a lot like 2.7 but it has lots of improvements to themes, widgets, taxonomies and overall speed that you will feel when you dig into it. They have also fixed over 790 bugs in it.
The best thing that I like in the new version is that its faster to use. Now you can browse the entire theme directory and install a theme easily from your WordPress dashboard.
You can read more about Whats new in WordPress 2.8 at the WordPress dev blog.
If you are already using WordPress then you can easily update it from your dashboard or if you are planning to install a new WordPress then you can read my post on

This 2.8 upgrade include database upgrade, i got my database covered yesterday:(
Personally I thought there was alot more buzz for wordpress 2.7 as opposed to the 2.8 version. I still have yet to upgrade to wordpress 2.8 on my personal blog, but I will be very soon, I am just waiting on a plugin that I use to get compatibility with wordpress 2.8 first. I had a friend who upgraded to 2.8 but had his site be really slow because one of the plugins wasn’t compatible with 2.8 yet.
I also don’t use the one click upgrade button inside of the wrodpress admin panel, I am wondering… is it faster to do the one click button upgrade? Or is it faster to upload the files and upgrade the old fashioned way?
Thanks,
-Randy
